Tick-borne Lyme disease is easy to treat, especially if detected early.
Lyme disease is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected ticks of the genus Ixodes. The most common sign of infection is an expanding red area on the skin called erythema migrans, which appears at the site of the tick bite about a week after the bite. The rash is usually neither itchy nor painful. About 25–50 % of infected individuals do not develop a rash. Other early symptoms may include fever, headache, and fatigue. IgM antibodies develop within the first few weeks after infection, but may persist for months in the case of Lyme disease. IgG antibodies are formed about 1 month after infection and remain in the body for years.
