Desire for children and family planning – recognizing the right time
During a woman's menstrual cycle, the concentration of luteinizing hormone (LH) rises sharply. This increase causes a mature follicle in the ovary to release an egg (ovulation). This egg enters the fallopian tube, where fertilization can occur within 3–24 hours. After ovulation, the LH concentration immediately drops again. By determining LH, the time of ovulation, i.e. the optimal time for conception, can be determined.
