Advanced colorectal cancer screening with the PreventID® Haemo/HaptOccult
Intestinal bleeding can be identified by detecting hemoglobin or hemoglobin/haptoglobin complexes in stool. These complexes are formed in human blood plasma to prevent loss of hemoglobin via urine or stool. Since these complexes are far more stable than hemoglobin alone, they can also be used to reliably detect blood from higher intestinal segments. In this way, bleeding polyps and tumors in the initial part of the colon – i.e. the transition area between the small and large intestine – can also be detected with greater certainty.
