Desire for children and family planning - recognizing the right time
During a woman's menstrual cycle, the concentration of luteinizing hormone (LH) rises sharply. This increase causes a mature follicle in the ovary to release an egg (ovulation). This egg enters the fallopian tube, where fertilization can occur within 3-24 hours. After ovulation, the LH concentration immediately drops again. By determining LH, the time of ovulation, i.e. the optimal time for conception, can be determined.
