PreventID® Micro-Albumin

Micro-Albumin should be performed once a year in people with diabetes, and even quarterly if the result is positive.
The PreventID® Micro-Albumin is a competitive, immunochromatographic rapid test for the detection of elevated albumin (human serum albumin, HSA) in urine and is used to detect micro-albuminuria. The detection limit is 20 μg/ml.

Micro-Albumin - Is kidney function okay?

Micro-Albumin enables monitoring of kidney function. In healthy kidneys, the blood vessels of the renal corpuscles retain protein components of the blood during filtration. In kidney damage, serum protein, albumin, enters the urine, and the amount depends on the severity.
Even small amounts of albumin in the urine are an early sign of kidney damage, which can occur particularly as a result of diabetes mellitus or hypertension.
Almost half of all insulin-dependent diabetics suffer from diabetic nephropathy (DNP) in the course of their disease. The determination of micro-albumin is therefore an important screening test for people with diabetes. The test is used to check kidney health but also vascular health in general. The aim is to be able to prevent DNP, retinal damage (retinopathy) and other vascular diseases (e.g. myocardial infarction, diabetic foot) at an early stage.
